Coach Education

Coach Education

Youth soccer coaches in British Columbia must complete specific training programs as outlined by BC Soccer to ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all players.

These include the Respect in Sport Activity Leader Program (a 2-3 hour online course), which emphasizes creating respectful and safe spaces for youth. Coaches working with young players must also complete the Age-Appropriate Canada Soccer Coaching Workshops (a 2-3 hour online course as well as a 3-4 hour on field component), such as the Grassroots Coaching Courses (e.g., Active Start, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, and Soccer for Life), which provide tailored strategies for developing skills at various stages of a child's growth.

Additionally, BC Soccer requires all coaches to complete a Criminal Record Check to prioritize player safety. These requirements are designed to equip coaches with the knowledge and tools needed to positively impact young athletes.
